MY EXPERIENCE WITH CAMP NANOWRIMO

Since I began my writing journey, I would hear about NaNoWriMo and how all writers should take the challenge. I recently learned about what it takes to complete the NaNoWriMo experience (50,000 words in a month) and began to wonder if I could pull it off. But then I heard that there are two months (April and July) when Camp NaNoWriMo takes place. During these two months, writers can set their own goals on as many projects they wish to tackle.

In April, I completed a simple 5,000 word project, but in July, I wanted to do more. I wanted to see if I could pull off 25,000s word in a month. I set up a 20,000 word project on "The Third Floor," the novel I am co-authoring with Anna Matthews as part of The Cedar Lake Series. I also set up another short 5,000 word goal on another personal project. I am happy to say I reached both of those goals (and on the last day, no less.)

Some days were better than others, with late nights being my prime writing time, my energy level would sink (especially after a 10-11 hour work day) and result in a low word count. Other days, I was on a roll and would write three times as much as was needed. Fortunately it all worked out, and I am quite pleased with the results.

Being able to complete these goals has given me the confidence to put a plan in place for November's 50K NaNoWriMo event. My plan is to write all or most of "Dragon's Blood: Apnea" in order to move forward on having it ready for publication by Halloween of next year. This sequel will pick up where the first book left off and hopefully be just as intense!

With "The Third Floor," Anna and I are currently at 35,500 words with a goal of hitting 80,000 (which is an attainable goal, given the chilling chapters yet to be told!) The characters of Audrey, Parker, Jenna, Colin, and the others are thrilling and will keep readers on the edge of their seats!

"Beckoned: A Cedar Lake Novella," the first book in The Cedar Lake series, will be released on October 3rd.

"Esme," a stand alone novel within the same universe as the Cedar Lake tales, is tentatively scheduled for release in February of 2022. We may even have other surprises in store as this amazing series begins to unfold.

As for the original story that started it all, you will find out what is on the third floor... on June 3rd, 2022.
